Household Cleaners with Multiple Uses

February 10, 2022

Homeowners with tidy houses have a full supply of cleaning products for various chores around the house. The good news for them is that many of those cleaners have more than one use. This post will cover some common household products with multiple uses:

  • Borax: It’s tough to top borax when it comes to household products with multiple uses. Borax can be used to deter pests, clean carpets, kill weeds, preserve flowers and much more.
  • Baby wipes: You don’t need to have a child to carry around a package of baby wipes everywhere you go. These can be used as an on-the-go stain remover, to clean your pets’ paws, shine your shoes and much more. You can also save your tongue and moisten envelopes with baby wipes.
  • Magic Erasers: Look no further than a Magic Eraser if you have a stubborn stain on a dry surface. These can remove Crayon drawings from walls and take scuff marks out of shoes. You can also use them in the bathroom to tackle dirty grout lines.
  • Washing soda: Washing soda (also known as soda ash, soda crystals or sodium carbonate) is a highly-alkaline powder with a pH of 11. It effectively blasts away grease from a dirty stove top and as an all-natural laundry booster.
  • Hydrogen peroxide: Hydrogen peroxide is one of our favorite cleaning products that have multiple uses. Hydrogen peroxide is nontoxic, so it can be used on pretty much anything you can think of. It’s useful in everything from making homemade toothpaste to cleaning out your refrigerator.
  • Dish soap: Liquid dish soaps, like Dawn, are fantastic for cleaning off dirty dishes, but their use extends far outside the kitchen. You can use liquid soaps to clean windows, clean off the driveway or even repel pests from houseplants.
  • Sponges: The next time you need to buy a sponge to clean the dishes, consider getting a multi-pack and using the extras around the house. Sponges work well as knee pads when you’re cleaning the house or working in the garden, and they can also be used to keep plants moist when placed in a plant pot.
  • Compressed air: A can of compressed air isn’t typically thought of as a traditional cleaning product, but along with cleaning out the keys on your keyboard, you can use compressed air to blast dirt off window blinds and many hard-to-reach places throughout the house.
  • Baking soda: Also known as sodium bicarbonate, baking soda has a variety of uses outside of making your favorite baked treat. Sprinkle it on your mattress or carpets to freshen things up, or keep a box of open baking soda in the fridge to absorb nasty odors.
